Calvin Coolidge, the 30th president of the US, took office after the death of Warren G Harding. Coolidge was a man of little words and always was straight forward. Born in the little town of Vermont, Coolidge had a deep knowledge of the work life for farmers and people of the middle class. During his time as president, Coolidge reduced federal spending, vetoed farm relief bills, and killed a plan to produce cheap Ferderal electric power on the Tennessee River. He wanted to cut the debt owed from the war and restore a normalcy in the country. In order to do this, he passed Acts some of these included: World War Adjusted Compensation Act, Foreign Service Act, and the Revenue Act. Coolidge's political ingenious helped stabalized the economy but also may have lead to the Great Depression. Calvin served from 1923-1929 and retired saying he did not wish to become President again.
Herbert Hoover was elected in 1929 after winning the Republican nomination. He was elected at a time when America was heading downhill towards the great depression and the US needed him to pull them back up.
