The Ku Klux Klan was a group of extremist that believed in white supremacy. When the KKK apposed the immigration of mostly Jews and Germans, they staged a huge march in Washington DC that took up most of Pennsylvania Avenue. At the time, the clan had as many as 4 million members and most were the high society and even political figures. Some 100,000 clan members showed up to this rally to stage a protest and also to gain the public's eye to just how big and strong the KKK was.
The 19th Amendment was ratified which gave women the right to vote. This was a long and hard process to achieve and many women lobbied, rallied, and protested for this right. Few of these women actually lived to see this law made but for those who experience it today, cannot imagine a life without women's rights. This one law changed the face of voting outcomes in America forever.
Saint Valentine's Day Massacre in 1929 was the most infamous gang related slayings in America. Al Capone had sent his men to take care of his rival Moran and his men. On a Saturday morning, four men busted into a garage owned by Moran for illegal dealings. Two of the men were dressed as cops and they claimed it was a raid and to put their face's against the wall. At the point the men lit into them with 90 bullet shots killing all seven of Moran's men. Though Moran himself was not killed, he was done as a criminal and Al Capone was the only crime lord to make big in Chicago.
Stock Market crashes in 1929 signaling Black Tuesday when investors traded around 16 million shares on the New York stock exchange in one day. With billions of dollars lost, the economy spiraled downward into the Great Depression. This happened due to people investing all their money into stocks while they were high but when the stocks began to drop the banks tried to sell the shares and lost tons of money. Most people were now penniless.
